A Centre to handle maintenance of Air Force aircraft

Spokesman of the Media Centre of the Defense Ministry Brig. Ruwan Wanigasuriya said that the maintenance of these aircraft can be undertaken within the island with the construction of the new Centre. He was addressing a news conference at the Defence Ministry Media Centre.
Brig. Wanigasuriya said that discussions are in progress for the establishment of a Centre in Sri Lanka for the maintenance of aircraft. He mentioned that at present, maintenance of aircraft was being done in China. But the country has to bear a massive expenditure. But he said this money could be saved if maintenance was done in Sri Lanka. This is not a process of maintenance being carried out by Chinese technicians by staying in Sri Lanka. They will be in the island only for a period of two years and train personnel of the Sri Lanka Air Force. He added that the Centre will thereafter be manned only by Sri Lankan Air Forces officers.
